Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What is a "remanufactured" part?
A. A
remanufactured part starts its life as a core. A core is a used
part often removed from older vehicles that are no longer in
use, such as a totaled vehicle in a auto parts recycling yard.
The old part still contains valuable content because some of the
parts are reused during the remanufacturing process. These parts
are the parts that don't wear out, such as castings on
a fuel distributor. In order to remanufacture a part it must be
completely disassembled, which often requires special tools.
Once disassembled the parts that are reused are thoroughly
inspected for damage, if damaged the parts are scraped and not
used. If the parts pass inspection they are cleaned and reused.
Internal parts that wear out are replaced and are usually the
parts that caused the part to fail. This includes o-rings, elastomer diaphragms and internal filters. Some parts are
inspected to original equipment tolerances and if they are
within specifications are reused. This includes springs and
spring buckets. Worn or damaged fasteners are discarded and
replaced with new ones.
In the end the remanufactured part looks
as good as new, performs like new but is much less expensive
because some of the original content was reused.
Q. What is a "core" charge?
A. A core
charge is a deposit that is collected at the time of sale and is
refunded once we receive the part you replaced. We collect a
core charge to encourage you to return the part to us so your
part can be remanufactured. Since all remanufactured parts start
out as cores it's important to get your part back.
Q. How long are Jaytan parts
warranted for?
A. Jaytan
parts are warranted for 24 months or 50,000 miles, which ever
occurs first.
Q. What is "R&R"?
A. R&R
stands for "Remanufacture and Return". Sometimes we might
not have your part in stock. In these cases you can send your
original part to us to have it remanufactured. Once completed we
send your part back to you. In this case we do not collect a
core charge because we are remanufacturing your part. This
process usually take about 1 day once receive your part.
Q. The mechanic at the shop
where my car is says he won't warranty a repair if I supply the part
to him for installation, what should I do?
A. Typically
mechanics and shops won't warranty parts you supply. Repair
facilities make a profit on both parts and labor. Part of the
profit they make on the sale of parts goes to offset any future
warranty claims they may see. This is similar to doctors
malpractice insurance, part of the charge for your office visit
covers the cost of his or her insurance premiums, among other
costs. You can have the shop where your vehicle is at contact
Jaytan to purchase the part for you. You'll usually end up
paying the same price for the part as you see on our web site,
but the shop that is doing the work for you will warranty the
repair.
Q. I have a professional
repair facility or auto parts store, does Jaytan sell to commercial
accounts?
A.
Absolutely. Please contact us at 1-888-652-9826 for more
information regarding establishing an account with Jaytan.
Q. How long will it take to
get my part?
A. For parts
in stock we ship out your order within 24 hours and ship via
United Parcel Service or United States Postal Service. Your part
will usually arrive in two to three days. We can also ship UPS
Red, for overnight service.
Q. How much remanufacturing
experience does Jaytan have?
A. Jaytan
has over 13 years of remanufacturing experience.
Q. How do I know if the part
I suspect is bad?
A. One
option is to have the part professionally diagnosed
(recommended). You can refer to our free Tech Info section but
the information supplied is only considered a general overview
of system operation. Often special tools are required to
properly diagnose the fuel injection system.
Q. What if the part I
replaced doesn't fix my problem, can I send it back for a refund?
A. It's
important to ensure the part you are replacing is properly
diagnosed before replacement. We cannot accept returns because
of misdiagnosis. Once installed on the vehicle a fuel
distributor would have to be completely disassembled to check
for contamination prior to selling it to another customer.
This requires us to re-remanufacture the part prior to selling
it again, at a significant costs. Throttle bodies have similar
costs involved and cannot be returned do to misdiagnosis. Of
course, Jaytan will replace any defective part that you receive,
but all parts are 100% tested prior to shipping. Most defects
are a result of contamination (see next question).
Q. What other parts need to
be replaced when replacing the fuel distributor.
A. The fuel
filter should always be replaced with the fuel distributor,
failure to do so can result in immediate failure of the new fuel
distributor if contamination enters the distributor.
Q. What other parts need to
be replaced when replacing the throttle body.
A. The
Throttle body gasket and air filter should be replaced when
replacing the throttle body. Also inspect the the air ducts
between the air filter assembly and throttle body for cracks or
leaks and repair as necessary.
